Artists needed for kdeedu/Kalzium
Hi

I added a nice feature to Kalzium about 1.5 years ago but it could never be used because of my non-existing artistic skills...

This is a good example of how Kalzium would look like, I "just" need the images, the code is done. So if you have artistic skills and some free time I would really welcome your help! Per element one svg-file is needed, I would do the rest.

Here is an example of how Kalzium would look like (Helium is used in zeppelins, picture done by Danny Allen):

example created by Danny Allen

Even if you would only create one or five icons, each icon would help a lot! I created a list of ideas what each icons could display. Click here for a full list.

I really appreciate the way kalzium is coming out. You really are adding fantastic creative features which I had never thought before! Keep up the good work!

You have "Water" as an element connected to "O" in your idea list. Would not breathing be better? :)

Thanks for a great piece of software BTW :-)

Breathing would also be good, yes. Water of course only contains O-atoms and not Oxygen so it would even be better.

So hydrogen's pictogram will be a zeppelin blowin' up? :)

That is a public misconception: The Hindenburg did not explode, it burned down. An explosion wouldn't be possible because for that you need a 50:50 H2/H20-saturation.

:)

Ouch, I even knew that. "Zeppelin catchin' fire" would have been the better wording, indeed.

Why don't you just use openclipart? http://www.openclipart.org/

I doubt I will find about 80 constant in style icons which fit here.

So find 80 icons, edit them a little bit, and resize them! Easy!

And you think finding 80 icons is easy? Hehe, I give you one hour to find 10 icons which fit the criteria and have a nice and consistent style with a free-enough licence. Good luck, you'll need it.
Beside that, I cannot "edit them a little bit" because I lack the artistic skill. That is why I need help from somebody who has those skills.

Some inspiration

I had a periodic table of elements lying around and thought you/an artist could make use of it, so I scanned it. Images are not as simplistic as the ones from elements.wlonk.com.
Obviously you can't use the images directly (copyright), but probably take an inspiration of it. Uses of the elements are also listed (in German).
The zeppelin example for Helium is even quite similar.

Here's a picture for you. I can't figure out how to get it to display bigger on the website, but it should be okay if you save the file.

ACS Elephants maybe

Hello,

have a look at http://www.chemistry.org/portal/a/c/s/1/elephant.html

My kids brought these home from school and loved them. Maybe they allow you to use the artwork in Kalzium. The advantage would be that you get consistent files for each and every element. Even if they need to be converted it should be possible to do so with a script (since they are all the same).

Greetings, Martin

Can you provide the SVG -version of the example He-zeppeliner-icon. So it can be examined as a template. Is the black frame a part of the graphics, and if what are the font used for "He"? Whats the size of Image?

The symbol is drawn by Kalzium, so I only need to actual picture! And yes, I now have the svg. You can find it here:
