Design of widget
I never really liked GNOME but sometimes I see things there and think: wow, that looks good! Today I looked at their Planet and saw this picture. I think that this looks great.

Widget?

That's no widget, that's not even done in gDesklet/Karamba like this kind of skin design stuff should be done. Nor is it consistent with anything.

Of course it is a widget. I don't know if it is consitent with GNOME or whatever but it looks good. That is all I said. Why does this have to be done in gDesklet or Karamba? The KDE-clock is also not done in either of it. The coder used ImageMagick to produce a png-file and updates it ever minute. He admits that that way sucks but works.

No widget, just a png displayed

As the gnome planet entry says, this is a simple applet, that lets a shell script generate a bitmap, which is then displayed:

What's so special about this?

Well, first of all, a "widget" is just about everything and nothing. I have no idea about GNOMEs API but I am sure that the png is embedded in some kind of QWidget (GWidget? no idea). Therefore, the whole thing is a widget in my definition.

Second: The look is special about it. I think the gradient in it and the font looks good and professional. No fancy but modern. Far better than any other clock I have seen so far. That's all.
